Our Background

Reverends Gordon & Marilyn Oliver were married June 19, 1982 in Shreveport, LA, while Gordon was stationed at Barksdale AFB. In 2013, they will celebrate 31 years of marriage. Their love produced two beautiful children, their son Carlos and their daughter Celestine, who is married to Trevor Stokes. On July 12, 2011 God blessed them with their first grandchild, Aliyah Nicole Stokes, who is the joy of their life. The Oliver’s have resided in Waldorf, MD, for the past 19 years.

Rev. Marilyn accompanied her husband while he served in the United States Air Force. He retired after 21 years of honorable service to his country. They have been blessed to have lived and traveled to some very exotic places, such as Italy, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Hawaii, and various locations in the United States.

While stationed at Andrews AFB, MD, and attending the Gospel service, they served as Lay Leaders for the One Flesh Couples Ministry for over eight years. Under their guidance and leadership, this ministry grew to well over 50 couples attending the monthly bible studies, seminars, and retreats.

Rev. Gordon & Rev. Marilyn both accepted their calling into the ministry in October 1999 while serving at Andrews. In April 2003, they left the chapel after 11 years to be a part of Israel Total Life Ministries in Bryans Road, MD. They both served as ministers on staff and the facilitators for the Marriage Enrichment Fellowship. In October 2007 they joined Miles Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) church in Washington, DC, under the leadership and tutelage of Rev. Dr. Paul L. Brown, Sr.

In January 2006, the Lord was tugging on their hearts to start a marriage ministry and after much prayer, "It Takes Three Marriage Ministries" was birthed. This ministry was established to teach God’s biblical principles to married, engaged and those seeking God first in their lives, so that He can bless their marriages. It Takes Three Marriage Ministries is a non-profit organization and was incorporated April 2007.

In April 2007, Rev. Gordon & Rev. Marilyn were ordained in the Baptist denomination and in July 2011 they were ordained Elders in the Christian Methodist Episcopal denomination. The Oliver’s are also certified facilitators for Family Dynamics Institute, members of American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), Black African-American Christian Counselors (BAACC), Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA) and Certified Pre-marital Counselors.

The Olivers have been planning, conducting and speaking at marriage conferences, retreats and seminars at churches in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and along the northeast corridor for over 17 years.

They both love the Lord and truly believe that if they can teach a husband and wife to keep Jesus Christ in the center of their lives and marriage, as they come closer to Jesus, they will come closer to one another.
